Video Remote Control By Face

A proof-of-concept demonstration of a project to use automated facial expression recognition to make robots more effective teachers has made a computer science Ph.D student’s face function as a remote control. In this experiment, his facial expression is being detected to control the speed of video playback.
In a recent pilot study, it is demonstrated that facial expressions that people make while watching video lectures can be used to predict a person’s preferred viewing speed of the video.
